Stability Wins
And the latest on Sevens
Bill Murphy Jr.’s Inc. article argues that one of the most important factors in raising successful kids is surprisingly simple: stability.
Drawing from research on child development and long-term outcomes, the piece emphasizes how stable neighborhoods, schools, peer groups, and environments can give children a stronger foundation for growth.
The point is not that parents can control everything, or that success requires a perfect setting. It is that young people tend to develop better when the world around them is steady enough to let them feel safe, build confidence, form relationships, and keep growing over time.
That same principle shows up in football and work. Quarterbacks often succeed when they are surrounded by stable coaching, consistent expectations, a clear system, and people who believe in their development.
The workplace is no different. People grow faster when they understand the mission, know what success looks like, and are not constantly guessing where they stand. Stability does not mean comfort or ease; it means enough clarity and consistency for people to take risks, learn, and perform.
So what should we look for — and build — on the field, at work, and at home?
Being Consistent matters because people draw confidence from steady habits, steady standards, and steady presence. Communicating Clearly matters because it helps us, and others, understand what is expected and why it is important. Building Relationships matters because stable environments are built on trust, and built by people.
Whether you are raising kids, leading a team, or playing quarterback, ask: am I experiencing, and creating, the kind of stability that drives growth?
The Latest on Sevens
Notwithstanding the importance of stability, sometimes you need to adapt and “call an audible.” That’s what we are doing with the Sevens concept.
The new plan looks like this:
Chris Hetherington and Vin Ferrara are going to start a monthly live interview series ... holding a conversation with an interesting person or small group... a QB, a subject matter expert, perhaps both, or other combinations ... where we will hear their stories, touch on key themes, and more.
After the conversation (let's say 30-40 minutes) we will break into virtual Sevens groups, randomly assigned by Zoom, so that every month we get new groupings ... and whoever shows up for the live interview gets included in a breakout group ... maybe you will get in a group with the guest speaker(s), too, which should create a fun "lottery" of sorts.
We will be able to foster a lot more QB Connections and introductions this way, and the logistics are fairly straightforward. We can still create guided Sevens discussions, and we can then also tie in the newsletter content to the interview series as well.
Some logistics we need to work out include the ideal day and time, and of course getting great speakers, but we are confident in being able to pull this off!
More details to come very soon!
Thanks!
