Friday Fellowship

EJ Perry chases a dream

The concept of fellowship entails more than casual or weak connection. It’s even more than just friendship. True fellowship entails a sense of community, and an engaged, active support among fellow human beings.

As quarterbacks, we have a built-in fellowship that’s already understood, before we’ve even met. We also have an opportunity to drive active fellowship by 1) supporting each other in our endeavors, and by 2) sharing and understanding each other’s stories.  These are core values of QB Connections.

As luck (biology, really) would have it, supporting others benefits not only the recipient of support, but benefits the supporter as well. Supporting others, including rooting for them, getting behind their causes, or acknowledging their efforts, has been shown to provide physical and mental health benefits. Consider it a form of “social fitness.”

As it turns out, stories are also really good for us, too, whether we are sharing them or receiving them. Stories are a primary way that our brains learn, and brains engaging in sharing or receiving stories actually demonstrate similar activity; they actually get in sync, enhancing our connection.

EJ Perry is giving us an opportunity to reap the benefits of fellowship, and enhance our connections, in two ways: 1) by giving us someone to root for, and 2) by sharing his story … many stories, actually.

EJ Perry at Brown University

As some background, EJ comes from a family that is considered “football royalty” in New England. His high school and college resume is improbable.

Coming out of Brown, he won the MVP of the East West Shrine Bowl, earning an invite to the NFL draft:

But as we know as QBs, nothing is simple. Not playing for your dad, or your uncle, or carrying a family name so much so that you have an “IV” (the fourth) after your full name.

Playing QB is, to state the obvious, not easy. It will humble you. It also requires putting yourself “out there” repeatedly. Another thing that can humble you and requires putting yourself “out there” … is writing and sharing your story.

EJ is doing just that, and sharing his story (stories) about chasing his dream to be an NFL quarterback.

In an act of fellowship, let’s help him chase his dream. It’s not only good for him, it’s good for you, and good for all of us. Subscribe here: https://ejperryiv.substack.com/p/the-fringe.

Good luck, EJ.

Though with your talent and determination, you will just need a little bit of luck to realize your dream.

In another act of fellowship, we ask you to join us later this afternoon, January 9th, at Noon EST:

Invitation: QB Connections - Chris Hetherington - Vin Ferrara
Friday, January 9, 2026: 12:00 – 1:00pm EST

QB Connections co-founders Chris Hetherington and Vin Ferrara will discuss their vision for QB Connections, and take questions from QBs in attendance.
